Ah, the highs and lows of entrepreneurship! Leading your own enterprise comes with various challenges and opportunities and the need for a significant amount of mental fortitude! This picture sums it up perfectly!
I’ve come across a few ways to steady the rollercoaster ever so slightly:
- Surround yourself with other entrepreneurs — Take it from Morpheus, you can’t be told about The Matrix, you have to experience it for yourself. Similarly, only people walking the entrepreneurial journey can understand the related frustrations. These members of your tribe are essential to help pick you up from the lows and celebrate the highs.
- Develop a plan and execute it meticulously — This helps with the overwhelm associated with all of the tasks that must be completed to keep your business afloat and allows you to triage your efforts to the most significant or income-generating. A plan also allows you to create placeholders – projects and opportunities you want to take on in the future, but do not have the to complete in the present moment. Writing it down can give you assurance that it is important and in the works, without the mental burden of it being an ever-present entry on your to-do list.
- Take time away to rejuvenate yourself — Go jogging. Get a massage (my favorite). Most importantly: Shut. Down. The. Laptop. And. Smartphone. Decompression time is essential in order to maintain a good quality of life and productivity.
- Yield to the madness! — There will always be more to do. Always. Accept that there are only 24 hours in the day, and many times they can be better spent with loved ones or reading a book than conducting market research or checking one more email.
Today is December 1st! There are 31 days left in 2015. How are you gearing up to board the entrepreneurial coaster in 2016! Let me know. Tweet me or make a comment below!
